Setup previously failed while performing the action…

IF you are in the middle of setup and for whatever reason is your setup is not moving forward and complaining about previously failed setup, the windows most likely is reading the register key called water mark which is telling new setup about previously failed one. Most of the time checking setup logs on C drive and performing more deep drive into the problem gets you to point where you can move on.

It has been my experience in several times deleting watermark key seems to be doing the magic and allowing the setup to move on and finish happily. So here is the reg key for the water mark incase if any of you might need it.

  • HKLM
  • SOFTWARE
  • Microsoft
  • Exchange
  • v8.0
  • ClusteredMailboxServer ( or what ever role you are installing )

Delete the watermark key to allow to setup to re-run
